This is Patchouli:

We don't have any registration papers on Patchouli, and we're trying to figure out why.  Here's what happened.  Maybe someone knows why these people have behaved this way:

On March 3, I got this email:
...so call me I have a selkirk friend coming thru today
Holyfold Scottish Folds
423-261-2049
www.holyfold.com
*****************************
Then I got a phone call from Stephanie Smith telling me that a friend of hers was visiting with a bunch of Selkirks she needed to place.  She told me what there was and the prices, and I expressed interest in purchasing an adult female.  She called me back later and told me her friend wanted to meet me with the cat and wanted cash for the purchase.  I told her I wanted CFA papers with the cat.  I explained that I had had bad experiences in the past, and she told me I did not need to worry.  Stephanie told me that her friend had picked up the cats from her sister and did not have the papers with her but that I would certainly get them because she vouched for Debra's reliability.

I arranged to meet Debra Sutherland - I was very pleased when I saw the cat and there were several other lovely Selkirks in the back of her truck.  She explained that her sister had wanted to breed and she had placed the cats with her but that her sister couldn't stand the mess and had suddenly asked her to take all the cats, which had been loose in her sister's home.  She promised me and my husband that she would get CFA papers off to me after she got home to Texas.  I asked her about the pedigree, and she told me the cat's father was Caesar (Baron x Chloe) and the mother was Little Miss Molly Madison.  I wrote this down on the bank envelope I had the cash in, and Debra wrote her cattery name and email address on the envelope.  It occurred to me that the cat could be pregnant if there was a loose male, and I asked about that.  Debra said that there had been a loose male - a straight chocolate Selkirk - and said that if the cat was pregnant, she would also provide registration papers for the kittens.

I took the cat to my vet and had her checked over and checked for leukemia - everything appeared fine and we went home.  I sent this email to Debra:

Hi Debra,
If you get this, assume you had a safe trip home.  All has gone fairly well so far with the little girl.  .... I am attaching a picture of her and the pedigree I put together last night.  Please let me know if I have it right and those are indeed her parents, etc.  And, do you know who she is, name-wise? ...

I'm home. I don't think she has had any shots. ... The Sire side of the pedigree I know is right, The other I'm not sure. I'll have to look back on all of it. Right now I'm trying to recover from the drive.
Be sure and start her on the three way shots. Don't let her around any cats for about 48 hours after the first shot.

Hi,
Glad to hear from you. I did mean to ask you about the shots, but it could be a problem. When I first got her, I looked at her nipples, and the hair was in a little circle but they looked small and white. Today they are more pink and could be getting larger, and I did feel at least one pea-sized object in her belly. What do you think about vaccinating with Felocell-4 (modified live) at this stage? I'll also talk with my vet tomorrow. .... Did she have her kitten shots?

I'm guessing no shots. You can give a two way shot even if she is PG, but not the others. If you feel she is PG just keep her away from other cats until you know for sure. Most of us have stopped using 4-way shots. There are some problems with them.

Was she born at your sister's? I'm afraid of rhino if she hasn't been vaccinated for it. Would cause her to lose the kittens if she got it. Will talk with my vet tomorrow. Do you know if she has a name?

yes she was.
You can vac for it at six months/ Do not use on kittens. This will cause kittens to have weepy eyes that will follow into adults.

Hello Debra,
Any word on the paperwork for Patches? aka Patchouli. She appears to be definitely pregnant, unless someone was feeding her watermelon seeds before she got here. Today a visitor looked at her and remarked on her being pregnant. She remains caged separately, because I haven't vaccinated her because of suspecting the pregnancy - she's doing well and seems very content. ...

Hello again,
This being my first litter of Selkirks, I don't know what is normal. The straight boy is growing much faster than the 2 curlies. They seem kind of listless and dehydrated - but when I pick them up, they are round and solid. I don't know whether to be real concerned or whether their coat just makes them seem that way. ??

Hi Debra,
One of the curly kittens died the other day, and the other one is on the way out today.
I've been breeding cats since 1969, and I haven't ever experienced kittens that just didn't grow - and in researching Selkirks, I didn't run across anything about exceptional difficulty with the curly kittens. I am attaching pictures I just took of the expiring curly kitten and his straight brother - do you have any idea what's going on? They were perfectly equal at birth. Thanks.

Welcome to the SR. If you have one die it's a curly one. Partly I'm sure was because the father was the sire. Hopefully the next litter will be different.

Hi,
Well, I know poop happens but wasn't expecting any because everything went so well with the delivery and initial appearance of the kittens, etc. Have you seen this just no grow thing before? When we met, you said that the male your sister had that would have fathered the litter, if there was to be one, was a straight chocolate - and that Patch's father was definitely Caesar. Did that turn out to not be the case or did your sister have Caesar? Because if these kittens could have been homozygous, what happened would maybe make more sense. Thanks.

Hello,
I purchased a Selkirk sealpoint and white girl from you in March, arranged through your friend Stephanie; and you promised we would receive CFA registration for her. The reason you did not have it with you was because you had picked her up from your sister, and you said it would take time to get the paperwork. She is doing fine, and we have become very pleased with our Selkirk boy, who has blossomed. We would like to breed her to him, but it seems pointless without the registration for her. Please provide this as agreed - thanks.

Hi,
I have been waiting since early March for the papers for the Selkirk female I purchased from Debra. I have written to Debra several times - I have not gotten replies for many months.
Stephanie, when you contacted me and told me about the available Selkirks your friend had and prices, you promised me that I would receive CFA registration. When you told me that your friend wanted cash, I replied that I wanted CFA papers. You assured me that the paperwork was in Texas because the cats had just been picked up from Debra's sister and she would have to take care of it later. I explained to you that I had bad experiences in past with handing money over and then being stuck with unregistered cats. You told me that you would vouch for Debra's reliability. As a relative neighbor and a Christian, I thought I could, so I went along with the plan.
Debra, when we met, you assured me I would get the CFA registration papers for the cat and gave me some pedigree information.& I am forwarding our earlier communication. Later you wrote and indicated that the litter "Patches" had was sired by her father, which didn't make any sense, since I didn't think he was living at your sister's. Since none of those kittens lived, that is now moot.
Please get the CFA registration for this cat to me. ... This is really not fair nor ethical. Thank you for your attention to this.
[again I provided the address to send the papers]

I just ran across your complaint on Selkirkrex.com regarding Debra Sutherland. I too got a kitten, a Siberian, from Debra. She never sent me the papers and has not answered any correspondence.

Did you ever have any luck getting the papers for your cat? I'm wondering how many others she has done this to?

Hope to hear from you.
